What to Pack for Your Kilimanjaro Climb
Everything you should bring — and a few things worth double-checking — before you meet Mussa at the trailhead.
Clothing & Layers
- Waterproof, warm jacket (down/fleece) for summit night
- Moisture-wicking base layers (avoid cotton)
- Warm hat, gloves & buff/scarf
- Broken-in hiking boots + camp sandals
- Hiking socks (wool blend, several pairs)
- Sunglasses with UV protection
Gear & Equipment
- Daypack (25–35L) with rain cover
- Sleeping bag rated to at least -10°C
- Trekking poles
- Headlamp + spare batteries
- Water bottles or hydration bladder (min. 3L capacity)
- Water purification tablets/drops
Health & Documents
- Passport (valid 6+ months) & Tanzania visa
- Travel/medical insurance with high-altitude evacuation cover
- Yellow fever certificate (if arriving from an endemic country)
- Personal medication + basic first-aid kit
- Altitude sickness medication — discuss with your doctor beforehand
- Sunscreen (SPF 30+) & lip balm with SPF
